McCollum Park Pool
Subfacility of McCollum Pioneer Park
Why is the pool closed?
The Snohomish County Parks, Recreation & Tourism Division announced May 7, 2021 that McCollum Pioneer Park pool will remain closed for the 2021 season (June to September) due to ongoing concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic. “We know that many families, members of the community, and staff will be very disappointed to hear the news,” said Tom Teigen, Director of Snohomish County’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. “This pool has been an important part of Snohomish County for almost 50 years, but we had to make the decision due to many factors, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and staff capacity.”
Due to the rapidly changing guidelines regarding COVID-19 and the amount of time it takes to plan and hire for the summer season, we had to make a decision with the information we had at the time. This decision ultimately was necessary because of the uncertainty of COVID-19 restrictions delaying staff hiring and raising questions about capacity limits at the pool. Normally we have all of our summer hiring done by May 1. Earlier this spring, we did not know which direction the COVID-19 numbers were going to go, and at that time we thought it best to air on the side of caution, instead of putting families and staff at risk. We could not announce plans to open the pool safely with so much uncertainty.
If the Governor opens the state on June 30, will you reconsider opening the pool?
Unfortunately, the decision to keep the pool closed this summer has already been made.
