Someone I live with also owns dogs and altogether there are four dogs on the property. Do we have to get a private kennel license?: Yes. Private kennel licenses are required if there are four or more dogs being kept on a single property, regardless of the number of owners or their relationship.

1. Why do I need a private kennel license?

With a private kennel license, you are demonstrating that you are a responsible pet owner and neighbor. Private kennel owners work with Animal Control Officers to ensure that all animals in unincorporated Snohomish County are well-cared for and responsibly bred.

2. Do puppies count when determining how many dogs I own?: Dogs under the age of six months aren’t required to be licensed and don’t count toward the number of dogs in a private kennel.
