Willis Tucker Park offers two types of shelters: the large, traditional fixed-roof picnic shelters and the canvas-covered kite shelters. Reservations must be made at least three days in advance (no more than nine months in advance).

Large Picnic Shelters

The Playground Shelter (Shelter 1) is located next to the children's play area, splash pad, and restrooms. It measures 24 feet by 36 feet and includes water, power, BBQ grill and seating for approximately 32 (max capacity is 50). It can be reserved online.

The Field Shelter (Shelter 2) is located across the field from the amphitheater. It measures 24 feet by 36 feet and includes a BBQ grill and seating for approximately 32. Although the shelter is the same size as Shelter 1, the maximum capacity is bumped to 100 because about 1/3 of the adjacent open field is included.  Please be aware, there is no vehicle access to Shelter 2 and bounce houses/inflatables are now prohibited.   

The Volleyball Shelters (3 & 4) are similar to shelters 1 & 2, but are located on the east side of the park near the off-leash dog area. While they are adjacent the volleyball courts (nets A-D), they are not included in the rental. Large shelters are available year-round. Peak Season (Apr 1 - Sep 30), Shelters 1 & 2 offer 1/2 day rentals (7:00 AM - 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM - Dusk). During the Off-Peak Season these shelters can be reserved once a day (7 a.m.- dusk). See Fees & Prices page for rates.  

Kite Shelters (Sunshades) 

Closes for maintenance from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Great for smaller birthday parties and picnics, our kite shelters provide relief from the sun and line-of-sight monitoring of the little ones playing in the splash pad. Each has three picnic tables (seating for 24) with a max capacity of 25. Because the kite shelters are on the splash pad area, glass containers are not allowed. Gas BBQs may be brought from home if placed on the side of the shelter opposite the splash pad, and cardboard is placed beneath the grill to catch falling grease. Sorry, no potable water, power, or vehicle access at the shelter.  

All three kite shelters (K1, K2, and K3) are reserved in 4-hour blocks (sessions). Sessions times are as follows: 

• AM Session (K1AM, K2AM, K3AM):  10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
• PM Session (K1PM, K2PM, K3PM): 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM

IMPORTANT: Shelter rentals are independent of the splash pad. While we make great effort to ensure the splash pad remains operational, we cannot guarantee against unscheduled interruptions in service.

Special Events

Special Event permits are required for events charging admission or participation fees, conducting business, utilizing vendors, extending beyond park hours, and/or exceeding capacity. More information can be found on our Hosting an Event webpage.
