Focus on Farming

Today is the 13^th Annual Focus on Farming/Forestry conference hosted by Snohomish County. The conference brings together innovative ideas and generates discussions about the future of our region’s agricultural economy. Participants spend the day learning, networking, and even enjoying a farm to table meal.

Agriculture is one of Snohomish county’s most vibrant industries. It represents $139 million dollars in economic activity in the county with over 50,000 acres in agriculture production and 1,438 farms. We have some of the best soil in the country and our farmers produce everything from biodiesel crops, sweet corn, hay, tree fruits, specialty vegetables, berries, grass fed beef, dairy, and much more.

Supporting our farmers is good for the local economy and means more good food for the rest of us.

Veterans Memorial Unveiling

The City of Monroe is unveiling a new Veterans Memorial this Saturday. The ceremony begins at 11:00 AM on the east side of Lake Tye Park. Come out and take a look.

At this year’s Evergreen State Fair the American Legion Arthur Kincaid Post No. 58, Monroe Historical Society, Park Place Middle School, and Boy Scout Troop 53 earned the Community Stewardship Award for their work in bringing Monroe the new memorial. It's great to see so many people get involved in honoring our vets, building our community and making connections. The impact will be felt for years to come.

Historical Society Walking Tour

A health community should have a sense of itself. And for that, you need history.

The Monroe Historical Society is hosting a Historic Homes Tour on Saturday, November 12^th. The tour kicks off at 11:00 AM and will include “six beautiful homes, two historic churches and the 1908 City Hall Building are all on the tour. In keeping with Monroe’s working class character these modest homes showcase the craftsmanship of many houses of a century ago.”

They also put together a Self-Guided Walking Tour that allows you to stroll down Main Street and take a look at the past.
