[ARCHIVED] Pets as Gifts

Cat_close-up.jpg

Thinking about giving a pet as a gift this holiday season? Finding the perfect pet that will fit your friend or family member’s home and lifestyle takes time and careful consideration. With the hustle and bustle of the holidays and the potential holiday hazards for pets, this may not be the best time to bring a new pet home.

Below are alternatives to consider:

* Give a gift certificate for a pet from your local animal shelter. A customized gift certificate gives your friend or family member the time to find the perfect pet after the holidays, while providing a pet a second chance at a loving home. You might also include a basket of toys, treats, food/water bowls, a brush, blankets, etc. as a fun and special addition to your gift certificate.

* Donate to your local shelter in honor of a friend or family member or former pet. Animal shelters provide critical care for lost and abandoned animals, as well as services designed to improve the lives of animals in our community. If you have a friend or family member who has a passion for animals, a contribution to your local animal shelter in his/her honor as a remembrance could be a meaningful and heartwarming gift.

There are dozens of shelter animals waiting for adoption. Contact your local animal shelter to learn more:
