Weatherization Works to Improve Air Quality and Energy Efficiency
EVERETT, Wash., October 2, 2020 – In recognition of National Weatherization Day (#WxDayOct30) on Friday, October 30, 2020, the Snohomish County Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) is joining regional and national partners in promoting home Weatherization – which saves energy, improves the health and safety of homes and supports jobs and small businesses.
Weatherization plays a key role in impacting the overall health and safety of a home, improving the indoor air quality, which has been noted by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as one of the many ways to keep homes healthier. As families spend more time at home during COVID-19, they also tend to use more energy. The energy efficiency and added health benefits of WAP have become even more critical for our communities during COVID-19. The Snohomish County WAP team has implemented numerous COVID-19 safety protocols in an effort to protect clients, staff, and program partners. With additional training, more personal protective equipment and social distancing, we can continue to deliver critical weatherization services in a safe and healthy manner.
The Weatherization Assistance Program provides home improvements such as insulation, air sealing, replacing inefficient heating equipment, and much more. In the last 3 years, the County’s Weatherization Assistance Program has assisted approximately 400 local residents, helping to reduce their home energy use by approximately 20% and lower utility bills.
