PRESS RELEASE
NATIONAL ADOPTION DAY CELEBRATION
Adoption Day is coming up. On Friday, November 22, 2019, the Snohomish County Superior Court, in co- sponsorship with the Snohomish County Clerk’s Office, will join others across the country in participating in National Adoption Day. For the fifteenth consecutive year, our Court and Clerk’s Office will partner to make this a special occasion.
“We are pleased to participate in this annual event,” said Judge Dave Kurtz, chair of the local Committee. “It’s a day that family members never forget. As a judge, it’s very gratifying to play a small part in each family’s celebration.”
Since the year 2000, over 2000 children statewide have been adopted during Adoption Day events. Dozens of kids have been adopted in Snohomish County alone.
A major goal of National Adoption Day is to raise awareness. Across our state, more than 1,800 children are legally free, awaiting a permanent home. Kids enter foster care through no fault of their own—often because of abuse or neglect by the very people who should have nurtured and protected them.
On November 22nd, the community is strongly encouraged to take part. Our event will occur at Snohomish County Superior Court from 9:30 AM through 12:00 noon, and perhaps into the early afternoon. The adoptions will take place in Courtroom 6 and Courtroom C-201 on the second floor of the Courthouse. All adoptions this day will be open to the public.
In addition, the public is warmly invited to a short program and celebration between 10:30 and 11:00 AM, in the Jury Assembly Room on the first floor of the Courthouse. There will be refreshments for all, and fun and activities for the kids and families. Also, there will be brief remarks by Judge Kurtz, County Executive Dave Somers, and County Prosecutor Adam Cornell.
