[ARCHIVED] Safe Snow Driving Tips

Safe Snow Driving Tips

  • Do not drive through drifted snow or snow banks.

  • Don’t use cruise control when driving on snow or ice.

  • Leave extra distance between you and other vehicles on the road.

Stuck in Snowdrift or Ice?

  • Your tires need traction. Sprinkle sand or salt underneath your tires to help them stick. The rubber underside of your floor mats can also help your tires gain traction.

  • Use a low gear and slowly accelerate to allow tires to gain traction.

  •  If you are stuck in your car for an extended period of time, make sure the exhaust pipe is clear so carbon monoxide doesn’t slip into your vehicle.

  • Clean the snow off the grille to avoid overheating.

  • Stay inside your vehicle to keep warm while help is on its way.
