Public input Sought on Affordable Housing and Community Development Needs

Snohomish County announces two public hearings on planning process for federal affordable housing and community development funds

EVERETT, Wash., November 14, 2017 - Snohomish County invites all interested persons to provide input on local community needs for affordable housing, public facility, infrastructure, services and economic development projects to be funded with 2018 federal grant funds and to provide input on 2016 grant performance.

Snohomish County, in a consortium with 19 cities and towns within the County, receives approximately $4 million in federal funds each year under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME), and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) programs. The grant funds help support local affordable housing, public facility, infrastructure, service, and economic development projects that benefit low-to-moderate income persons and neighborhoods in Snohomish County.

The use of these grant funds is guided by a five-year 2015-2019 plan, which establishes goals based on community needs.

Each year, Snohomish County, as lead agency of the consortium, is required to develop an Annual Action Plan for use of these funds. The 2018 Annual Action Plan will cover the period between July 1, 2018, and June 30, 2019.

Two meetings to provide information and receive input will be held. The meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. and at 6:00 p.m. Both meetings will be located in Public Meeting Room 2 of the Robert J. Drewel Building, 3000 Rockefeller Avenue in Everett.

Snohomish County will also accept written comments. Comments can be sent to Debra May at Debra.May@snoco.org or Snohomish County Human Services Department – OHCD, 3000 Rockefeller Ave M/S 305, Everett, WA 98201.
