Paine Field Seeking Applicants For Newly Created Airport Commission

 

EVERETT, Snohomish County, August 4, 2017—Today, Snohomish County announced the creation of a new Airport Commission, and the county is seeking volunteers to fill the thirteen positions. The Snohomish County Paine Field Airport Commission will advise the county on multiple matters related to airport operations.

The Airport commission will serve in an advisory role in the following areas:


  1. Review and recommend updates to the airport masterplan;
  2. Review and recommend changes to the airport capital improvement program and capital facilities plan;
  3. Review and recommend an annual airport budget;
  4. Provide a community perspective on airport operations;
  5. Review and recommend strategies for airport noise reduction;
  6. Review appeals of enforcement procedures under SCC 15.08.651 and recommend outcomes.

 

The Airport Commission will be composed of thirteen (13) members consisting of: one member from each council district (five total); three members from the airport tenant community; three members from the Snohomish County business community; and two at-large members.  The recommendation and appointment of commission members will be in accordance with chapter 2.03 SCC.

The newly formed commission will set a schedule of meetings necessary to accomplish the stated roles with an anticipated frequency of no less than quarterly meetings.  

Snohomish County actively encourages members of diverse communities to apply. The Snohomish County Airport Commission strives for a membership that represents all the areas of the county, including organizations based at or near Paine Field and members of the general public.

Those interested in serving on the Airport Commission must complete and file an online application with Snohomish County.  Applications will be accepted until all positions are filled.  Initial review of applications expected no earlier than September 2017. The first meeting of the commission is planned for later this fall.

The Paine Field Community Council will continue to serve as the primary forum for issues related to the Airport’s Mediated Role Determination.
