Paine Field Receives Significant FAA Grant for Critical Infrastructure

Will fund construction for improved runway safety, taxiway, and water quality

EVERETT, Wash., July 24, 2017—Today, the FAA announced that Snohomish County's Paine Field Airport has been awarded a grant of over $12 million for a number of major projects: constructing a water treatment facility and detention pond; reconstructing taxiway bravo; and reconstructing the north ramp taxilane. These investments in Paine Field will ensure that it not only has the highest quality infrastructure but also can improve water quality before it reaches Puget Sound.

Sen. Patty Murray, a senior member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations Committee and an advocate for the FAA's Airport Improvement Program grant funding, supported the County's application for the competitive grant.

"As a voice for Washington state, I'm proud to fight for federal investments that can help grow the economy and connect our communities," said U.S. Senator Patty Murray. "Paine Field is poised for big things in the near- and long-term, and this kind of infrastructure investment will help makes those projects a reality."

“We are grateful to Senator Murray, Senator Cantwell, and Representative Larsen for their hard work in helping secure these funds,” said Dave Somers, Snohomish County Executive. “Great things are happening at Paine Field, and we’re continuing to work hard to give our job creators the infrastructure they need. Also, Paine Field will now have a much improved water treatment system, making the water that ends up in Puget Sound that much cleaner.”

“In Washington State, transportation means jobs, and the resources announced today will help boost the economic driver that is Paine Field,” said Larsen, the top-Ranking Democrat on the House Subcommittee on Aviation. “This investment will also help treat and clean water that drains from Paine Field into Puget Sound as well as make infrastructure improvements for pilots, passengers and nearby communities.”

"Paine Field supports thousands of jobs in Snohomish County and throughout the entire region. This smart federal investment ensures that Paine Field remains an economic hub, supporting good paying jobs and the aerospace industry in the Northwest," said U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell, the leading Democrat on the Senate Commerce aviation subcommittee.

Construction will start in August 2017 and last for approximately two years. The projects will cost a total of $17 million.
