The Everett Silvertips, Volunteers of America, and Snohomish County Partner to Combat Hunger
EVERETT, Snohomish County, March 3, 2017—Without access to foodbanks in Snohomish County, one in seven people would go hungry. Fifty-percent of those who access foodbanks in our community are children and seniors. Every year during the month of March, Snohomish County employees work together to raise money and nonperishable food to help their neighbors in need.
“Enjoy a night of thrilling hockey and help out your neighbors in need by joining us at the Everett Silvertips game on March 18,” said Dave Somers, Snohomish County Executive. “For each ticket sold, a donation will be made to our local VOA. And we will also be collecting non-perishable food at the door. Nothing better than having a good time and knowing you are giving a lifeline to a neighbor in need.”
This year, the Everett Silvertips, Volunteers of America, and Snohomish County are partnering to combat hunger. Join Executive Dave Somers and Snohomish County employees at the March 18, 2017 game against the Victoria Royals. Executive Somers will drop the puck at the start of the game, and Snohomish County employees will be collecting food donations at the door.
Five dollars of every ticket purchased through http://everettsilvertips.3dcartstores.com/March-Against-Hunger--318_p_511.html will go towards fighting hunger locally. Bring a nonperishable food donation and receive a coupon for $5 off a $25 purchase at the Silvertips Team Store.
Snohomish County’s March Against Hunger was started in 1999 when Valerie Davis-Butler, a former Treasurer’s Office employee, took note of those going without food in the community. Sadly, she passed away later that year, but her legacy of compassion and giving remains.
