Snohomish County to Protect Singletary Property to Secure Vital Recreation Land
Twenty-five acres involved in Wallace Falls compromise are included
EVERETT, Snohomish County, February 22, 2017—Today, Snohomish County approved a Joint Resolution (attached) to reconvey up to twenty-five acres of property involved in the proposed Singletary sale. This reconveyance will allow Snohomish County to affirm the compromise reached by the county and local community to protect crucial recreation land, a key source of income for the region.
“When our local community reaches a compromise over contentious public issues, we will follow through on achieving that compromise, “said Dave Somers, Snohomish County Executive. “This compromise preserves a prime recreational asset while allowing for the sustainable harvest of working forest lands that provide critical funding to our local schools and other special districts.”
Snohomish County has asked for a delay of the Singletary sale until the reconveyance can be completed. Also, the county has proposed to swap up to 25 acres for timber harvest to ensure the revenue to special service district budgets won’t be negatively impacted.
“We want to do what’s right for all of our communities and also preserve a crucial economic engine in Snohomish County,” said Brian Sullivan, Snohomish County Council Chair. “We can provide revenue to those who rely on it, while also preserving one of the key recreational assets of Snohomish County.”
