Rescheduled: Public Meeting to Discuss Potential Mann Road and Ben Howard Road Flood Improvements
Event to be Held at Mountainview Christian Fellowship on Thursday, January 19 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
EVERETT, Wash., January 5, 2016 – A previously cancelled public meeting, to present the findings of a feasibility study to address flooding on Mann Road and Ben Howard Road, south of Sultan, has been rescheduled. Snohomish County Public Works will host the postponed meeting on Thursday, January 19. The county is requesting public comment on the potential project, which entails raising the road elevation at two locations on Ben Howard Road and one on Mann Road at Devil’s Elbow.

Public Meeting: Mann Road and Ben Howard Road Flooding Improvements

- What: A feasibility study has been completed for the Mann Road and Ben Howard Road area to understand where the roads flood, to what extent, and how the levels of the Skykomish River correlate with the flooding. Mann Road is the only access point for hundreds of homes south of the City of Sultan. During the fall and winter, flooding in the area is caused by the Skykomish River, the South Slough, and streams draining the hills to the south. Multiple points along Mann Road, Ben Howard Road, and 311th Avenue SE are susceptible to flooding during these events. Road closures due to flooding disrupt residents from accessing their homes and impacts school bus routes, emergency services, and more.
Currently this project is in preliminary stages of design. Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2020 and targeted for completion in the fall of 2020. The project cost is estimated to be $1.9 million and the county has applied for a grant to cover some of the cost.
