Snohomish County Organizes National Night Out on August 2
Provides Opportunity to Learn About Family Safety and Local Law Enforcement Agencies
Snohomish County, WA—Snohomish County officials today invited local residents to take part in the National Night Out, taking place on August 2, 2016 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Willis D. Tucker Community Park, 6705 Puget Park Drive, Snohomish, WA. Bring the whole family for an evening of summer fun and free food, and learn how to keep your family safe by talking with local law enforcement.
Each year, local companies and nonprofits join Snohomish County and law enforcement agencies to provide crime-prevention information and a summer party of food and music. This annual free event features onsite emergency vehicles and booths where residents can learn tips to increase personal and public safety. Attendees can meet K-9 officers, learn from search and rescue crews, and thank local law enforcement officials.
“This year as much as ever it’s important that we provide opportunities for the community to join with law enforcement for a night of fun and information,” said Dave Somers, Snohomish County Executive. “National Night Out is our opportunity to learn about public safety and show off the extraordinary men and women who serve us every day. Even if you come for the free food and music, the information about public safety will be useful.”
NNO features a crowd favorite: the arrival of the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office search-and-rescue team and helicopter, SnoHAWK10. Once the helicopter has landed in the adjoining ball field, everyone is welcome to get up close—and kids are welcome to sit inside the helicopter. The Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit will also be on hand and provide a demonstration.
“National Night Out is one of my favorite events because on this one night, people from all across Snohomish County are meeting and connecting with law enforcement and each other to prevent crime in their neighborhoods,” said Snohomish County Sheriff Ty Trenary. “Together, we send a message to criminals: we are organized and fighting back against crime and drugs.”
Other event features include:
• Free hot dogs, corn-on-the-cob, and sno-cones while listening to live music.
• Kids games and activities.
• An opportunity to see and touch emergency vehicles from the Mill Creek Police Department, Fire Districts 1 and 7, and the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
• SNOCOM and SNOPAC—the dispatch agencies that provide 911 services in the county—along with the County’s Office of Enhanced 911 and Department of Emergency Management will have emergency information to share, including information on Smart 911 and Text-to-911.
• Attendees will have a chance to enter to win a two-night stay in a yurt at River Meadows County Park.
The event is sponsored by the Snohomish County Executive Office, Snohomish County Parks and Recreation, and Community Transit. Partners include the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, Mill Creek Police Department, Fire Districts 1 and 7, Mill Creek Lions Club, and SnoCope Credit Union.
