CIU Investigates Fatal Collision in Lake Stevens

LAKE STEVENS, Wash. – Sheriff’s Office Collision Investigation Unit detectives responded to a fatal crash in the 15300 block of 84th Street NE around 8:30 p.m. Friday. Two vehicles collided head-on. The driver of one of the vehicles, a 79 year-old Granite Falls man, died shortly after the crash. Two passengers in his vehicle suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle, a male in his 30s, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
CIU detectives are still working to determine the cause of the crash. The collision was initially reported as a hit and run by a reckless driver. At this time, detectives are unsure of that driver’s involvement and are still working to determine if that vehicle was involved in the crash.

Positive identification of the decedent, as well as cause and manner of death, will come from the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.
