CIU Investigates Fatal Crash in Stanwood

STANWOOD, Wash. – Sheriff’s Office Collision Investigation Unit detectives responded to fatal crash in the 29200 block of 80th Ave NW in Stanwood. At approximately 3:40 p.m. a vehicle lost control, left the roadway and struck a tree. Both the driver and the passenger were ejected from the vehicle. The passenger, a 20 year-old female, died at the scene. The driver, a 25 year-old Mount Vernon man, was transported by aid with life-threatening injuries.
CIU detectives are still working to determine the cause of the crash, but believe speed and alcohol may have been contributing factors.
Positive identification of the decedent, as well as cause and manner of death, will come from the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.
