SULTAN, WASH. – Lt. Steven McDonald, who has a 20 year career in law enforcement, has been selected to serve as the Chief of the Sultan Police Department and Commander of the East Precinct, effective September 1, 2016. The previous chief, Lt. Monte Beaton, was reassigned to the Personnel Development Division to oversee employee training and development.
“I’m looking forward to serving the residents of Sultan and East Snohomish County,” said Lt. McDonald.
McDonald most recently served as the sergeant for the training division. During his career, McDonald has worked in a variety of units, including SWAT, and served as a field training officer (FTO) and instructor in defensive tactics, firearms, and active shooter response. He also worked as a detective for five years in the Special Investigations Unit, a unit that investigates crimes against children and sex crimes.
McDonald worked for Skagit County Corrections for two years before joining the Sheriff’s Office. He was promoted to sergeant in 2010.
The City of Sultan has contracted with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office for police services since 2009.
