Index, Wash. – Snohomish County Search and Rescue are searching for a lost hiker near Blanca Lake in the Index area.

On Saturday, 5/7/2016 just after 9 PM, Deputies received 911 calls about a lost hiker who had become separated from her group and could not be found.  A full search and rescue callout was made and teams began search operations during the night.  As of 10 AM the hiker has not been found, and search operations will continue throughout the day.

Initial reports are the hiker is an 18 year old female who had been hiking with at least one other person, and that she may not be equipped for the conditions in this remote area.  Her hometown is not available at this time.

Additional search and rescue resources have been requested through Washington State Department of Emergency Management, a standard practice where search and rescue teams and other specialized resources are available for mutual aid situations.  Searchers plan to use SNOHAWK10 in the search but weather conditions are not allowing helicopter operations in the area.

Due to the search operations, the Blanca Lake Trail and Trailhead are CLOSED.

Blanca Lake is in extreme eastern Snohomish County in the Cascade Mountains.  The area is very remote and there is no cell phone coverage in the area.
