SULTAN, Wash. – Around 8:30 p.m., a female resident of a home in the 13700 block of Woods Lake Rd called 911 to report that she had shot an intruder after he broke into her home and stabbed her husband.  Her 75 year-old husband was airlifted to Harborview Regional Medical Center with abdominal stab wounds.  The suspect, a 25 year-old Gold Bar man, died at the scene.  The woman, who is 80 years-old, did not sustain any injuries nor did the couple's 45 year-old son, who was also in the home at the time of the incident.

At this time, detectives do not believe the suspect was known to the residents of the home and that this was an attempted home burglary.

Identification of the suspect, as well as cause and manner of death, will be provided by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner.

Woods Lake Rd between Florence Acres Rd and Old Owen road will be closed for several hours for the investigation.  Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit are interviewing witnesses, gathering evidence, and processing the scene.

No further updates are expected tonight.
