Granite Falls, WA – Detectives from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Collision Investigation Unit responded to a car versus tree fatality collision. The location is was the 12500 block of the Mountain Loop Highway in unincorporated Snohomish County. A local resident called 911 this morning at 7:48 am when he saw the car in the brush while taking his child to the school bus stop. He told investigators last night about 9:30 pm he heard what sounded like 2 shotgun blast but nothing else was seen or heard.
First responders found the vehicle at the base of a cedar tree heavily damaged. Two females and one male were inside the vehicle deceased. Based on the impact all occupants’ sustained immediate fatal injuries. The initial observations are that the vehicle was travelling southbound on the Mountain Loop HWY, crossed over the double yellow line and left the road on the east side and struck a cedar tree roof first. This impact collapsed the interior of the car resulting in the fatal injuries. There are no obvious signs of impairment; final determination will be made by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner. The identities and residential origins of the occupants are unknown at this time. Once the Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victims, notified the next of kin they will release that information. The investigation is ongoing and will be very extensive relying solely on the physical evidence and expertise of the investigators due to the lack of any witnesses.
