Man and Dog Killed in Hit and Run Near Index

On Saturday, August 4 at approximately 11 PM, a 47 year-old Index man was walking eastbound with his dog on Index-Galena Rd. At the 50700 block, both the man and dog were struck head-on by a vehicle. The driver of that vehicle fled the scene. The victim was found by a passer-by, who called 911 and did not witness the accident. The victim, who has been identified by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office as Stacey Lain Broyles, was transported to Harborview, where he later died from blunt force injuries to the torso. The ME’s Office has ruled that the manner of death was accident. The dog, which also died later, had been transported to Pilchuck Veterinary Center.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance from the public about this accident, which likely occurred between 11 and 11:15 PM on Saturday, August 4.
