- Social Opportunities And Recreation (SOAR)
The Snohomish County Parks and Recreation Department provides recreation programs and activities for people of all abilities.
The primary goal of SOAR is to provide opportunities for learning and growth through the experience of recreation and leisure activities for people living with disabilities. This program is designed to give persons with developmental and/or physical disabilities the opportunity to participate in activities and events within Snohomish County and the surrounding area.
SOAR is an Adapted Recreation program that is open to all ages. Caregivers, parents and siblings are always welcome to attend. We strive to provide reasonable accommodations for all our activities. However, there may be some activities that are not conducive for people with limited mobility. Please call prior to registration to ask if the activity will work for you.
Program staff does not support personal care needs, 1:1 attendant care for toileting, toilet transfers, feeding or behavior management. If this type of assistance is needed you must provide an attendant for the activity. Attendants who accompany participants are required to register and remain with their client, registration fees may be required for some events.
If you are interested in volunteering with specialized recreation we could use your help. Whether it is one event per year or every month, we need help in all areas of our program. Please call Shane Marquardt at 425-388-6614 for questions and more information or complete the individual volunteer application form (PDF) and return to Shane.
