Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) Research and Development Center

Snohomish County is establishing a world-leading Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) Research and Development (R&D) Center at Paine Field Airport. With this Center, Snohomish County and our partners, including Washington State University, will lead the world in developing new technologies to reduce the economy’s dependence on carbon-based fuels.


SAF offers the most immediate way to decarbonize aviation and can be used on the biggest, furthest flying aircraft in the world.
