Corcoran Memorial Park

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Corcoran Memorial Park will be a neighborhood park in Bothell. It will have a playground, Off-Leash Dog Area, parking and picnic area for visitors and community members to enjoy for generations. Mr. Corcoran donated 3.43 acres for the park requesting an emphasis on character and physical development for youth.

HISTORY

On September 11, 2019, James W. Corcoran donated 3.43 acres of land he owned to the Snohomish County Parks & Recreation Division. The land is valued at $1,573,800 making it one of the highest valued land donations in the department’s 57 year history. The property will be known as the Corcoran Memorial Park in memory of Mr. Corcoran’s younger brother who died in 1970 shortly after serving in Vietnam with the 82nd Airborne Division; his nephew who perished in the SR 530 mudslide in 2014 as well as honoring the memory of other loved ones lost in a plane crash in 1960 while serving in the Navy.

CURRENT STATUS

Phase 1 (current phase): Emphasis on addressing site safety and security as well as playground development.

 

November 2020:

  • Corcoran Memorial Park Public Meeting was held Tuesday, November 24, 2020 6:30-8:00 pm to gather feedback/input/design ideas from community

 

May 2020:

  • County Parks conducted maintenance mowing and began site cleanup and vegetation management.

  • County has designated Thomas Hartzell, Senior Park Planner, to be the project manager for this project. Project input can be emailed to him via the link below.

  • Parks has utilized a Landscape Architecture student intern from Washington State University to conduct a Site Inventory and Analysis and some space planning concepts to aid in the development of a park design. His work can be viewed in the Document links below.

  • This webpage was created for updates and planning to send out postcard fliers to advise the general public, particularly in the neighborhood, of the current status of the park and to collect input.

  • Take collected public input data and apply it with the site inventory and analysis findings to begin developing a conceptual design.

 

Phase 2: Other elements to be determined. These will be based on collected input and consider the capacities of the neighborhood streets and regulatory requirements/limitations of the area.
