Unidentified Remains

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office is seeking assistance in identifying the unidentified remains listed below. It is our hope that the use of the Internet will greatly expand our reach and assist in finding relatives or friends of these persons.  If you have any information regarding any of the unidentified individuals listed here please contact our office at (425) 438-6200 or by email. NOTICE: All emails, and attachments, sent to and from Snohomish County are public records and may be subject to disclosure pursuant to the Public Records Act (RCW 42.56).  

Call 911 to report someone missing. If you have reported someone missing over 5 years ago and they are still missing, call the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office (425) 388-3393 (then press “0”) with the person’s full name and date of birth to check that they are still entered as a missing person; older cases may have been inadvertently removed from the database. If you check with the Sheriff's Office and they tell you that the person you are missing is not in the system, ask that they take a new missing person report.

The drawings below are by a forensic artist and are an interpretation of what the decedents may have looked like or may have looked similar to.  Hairstyle and color and eye color are guesses.  Our hope is that you see a resemblance in the likeness and be able to provide more information that may lead to an identity


Snohomish County Medical Examiner Case # 15SN2618

Snohomish County Sheriff's Office Case # 79-0189

On January 3, 1979, a duck hunter discovered the partially skeletonized human remains in the mud flats west of SR 529 and south of Steamboat Slough near Marysville, WA. The decedent is a White male, 30-70 years old, approximately 5' tall. Clothing included a red/orange and white/gray plaid shirt, khaki pants and a 33-34" belt. The left femur showed an un-set fracture, so he most likely would have had a noticeable uneven gait. The cause and manner of death are undetermined.

Snohomish County Medical Examiner Case # 17SN1918

On July 23, 1980, the decomposed remains of a White male were found in the Stillaguamish River 1/2 mile northwest of the Interstate 5 Bridge over the river. The decedent is an adult male less than 60 years of age and had graying hair. He was about 5'6" tall, 150 pounds. He was wearing a red shirt, undergarments, jacket, pants, socks, black leather Oxford-type ("Winthrop Shoes") arch support shoes. He was also wearing a size 40 brown leather belt with a belt buckle with the initials "GRN" on it. The cause of death appears to be either natural or drowning and the manner of death is undetermined.

Snohomish County Sheriff's Office Case # 91-17849

On February 28, 1991 a fisherman on the Skykomish River near Startup found human remains on the river bank. Additional remains were discovered near High Bridge Road in Monroe on March 27, 1991. On August 21, 1991, citizens swimming in the south Snohomish River near Shorts School Road and Nevers Road near Snohomish discovered partial human remains in the river. Autopsy and DNA testing associated all of the remains to a white male, unknown age, unknown height, and unknown weight. The cause of death is homicidal violence.

On April 9, 2007, workers inspecting land for logging timber found human skeletal remains near mile post 9 on Sultan Basin Road near Sultan, Washington. It appeared that the decedent was camping in the woods at that location. The remains are that of a white male estimated to be 20-50 years of age, of unknown height, and unknown weight. He is estimated to have been there from 1-5 years. The cause and manner of death are undetermined. 


Snohomish County Medical Examiner Case # 200927-87

Snohomish County Sheriff's Office Case # 2020-151635

On September 26, 2020, human skeletal remains were found in a shallow grave in the 200 block of 130th Street NE is South Everett. The decedent is male, 22-43 years old, of Native American, Asian, Hispanic or mixed-race descent, 5'3"-5'9", and has been deceased between one and thirty years. The cause of death is undetermined at this time.
