Snohomish County Public Works Department plans to complete mitigation work near the Waldheim Slide, at milepost 20 on the Mountain Loop Highway. Crews completed emergency repairs in 2010 and 2011. Federal funding allows the county to complete mitigation work to address the impacts of the emergency repairs.
Public Works staff will install Woody debris in the river downstream of the slide to improve fish habit. The areas that were disturbed by the slide and emergency repair work will be replanted, and a wetland will be created near Little Beaver Creek.
The Waldheim Slide mitigation work is expected to begin in 2014 after permits are obtained.
